Once a royal palace before it became a prison, this large impressive building was seen from our bus tour only, I'm sure it's well worth a visit.
Less crowded than its neighboring touristic building, the Sainté-Chapelle, it is an interesting construction with its particular style and history behind. There are no big paintings nor frescos on the walls, but the several rooms and halls are great. Its construction is believed to have been carried out in the 6th century, and it represents the gothic secular architecture. History says the Conciergerie was appointed as center of royal government between 10th and 14th centuries. Afterwards, it was the seat of the Parliament. It became a prison during the French Revolution. I spent nearly 1 hour to do the tour of the building. Fast access with the Paris Museum pass.
A Medieval Royal Residence with Gothic halls, used as a prison in the revolution. A place full of stories and mysteries that reminds the tragic end of a famous Empress.
