There's a lot to learn from this building. My favorite part was learning the history of Foucault's Pendulum and seeing it inside. For the rest, I took in a lot, but think it would be best learning about on a tour. Also inside are tombs of some of the people most important to Paris' history: Voltaire, Marie Curie, Rousseau.
Great building which houses the tombs of many great French citizens. Victor Hugo, Voltaire and Marie Curie are three of the most famous. A clock in the centre of the building is fascinating, with a pendulum hanging from the middle of the dome. A must visit, I have visited Paris on many occasions and have never been before. I will certainly be going again.
The Pantheon started out as a basilica for St Genevieve, Paris’ savior from the Huns. Then it was an important monument after the revolution. But at times, it served as a church. Now it is a very impressive monument with the graves of the most important people of France, like Voltaire, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Braille and the Curie’s downstairs in the crypt. The famous Foucault pendulum is also here. The walls are covered with frescoes mainly about St Genevieve’s life and many statues. The dome is very high and impressive. Entrance is 9 Euros and is really worth the price. Don’t miss the St Etienne church nearby.
