This is a small, lovely church requiring less than 1 hour for a visit. Try to visit on a sunny day as the stained glass is much more impressive then. You can buy tickets online ahead of time to skip the lines- you will still have to go through security. The best option is to visit the Conciergerie which is located right next door first and buy the combo ticket for the Conciergerie and Sainte- Chapelle saving you time and money later. My husband thought Sainte Chapelle was nice- but didn't think it was worth the price of admission alone but was worth it when combined with the Conciergerie. Be aware that you will enter the lower chapel and must walk up tight, steep spiral stairs to get to the main upper chapel where the stained glass is located. There are no restrooms located inside Sainte- Chapelle.
Thank you so much for taking a time out to write a review for us!
LOVED this chapel (really, more like a small cathedral!). It was a little hard to get to, because the building that wraps around it also happens to be function city government building (Conciergerie) and it just a happened that a terrorist trial has been taking place for weeks. You have to walk around the side (east or west) of the island, then move to the center south of the chapel where you present your ticket, your vaccine pass, and are then admitted to the line near the chapel itself. Our wait was about 30 minutes but it was well worth it. Read up on its history, and prepare to marvel and the gorgeous stained glass window (14) as well as a rose window. These windows tell the story of Christ, the way the Church communicated back when people were poor and illiterate. There's not time limit. Take your time and see it all, soak it in! Begun in 1242, this chapel is HISTORY.
Thank you so much for your kind review!
We had an hour wait to get into St. Chapelle after it opened. I called the number provided by tour company to inquire. They were very helpful and after their quick investigation, our experience was delayed due to the strike in Paris. We left and went back later. It was nice, but takes very little time. I would have like to have learned more about this chapel. There is more to see in adjoining building so worth it.
